1st Prize Viola 2023 Haesue Lee, Korea
· Biography
The 23-year-old Haesue Lee completed her bachelor's studies with Roberto Diaz and HsinYun Huang at the Curtis Institute of Music in 2021 and finished her master's degree with Tabea Zimmermann at the Hochsschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in 2023. A recipient of several first prizes in her youth, she most recently participated in the Primrose International Viola Competition, where she won first prize and the audience award. In 2022, she was part of the Curtis On Tour European tour, and the following year she performed with the Sejong Soloists. A tour with the Marlboro Musicians is in the works. From 2019 to 2021, she was a member of the Ravinia Festival Steans Institute program. Likewise, a year later, in the Marlboro Music Festival's sponsorship program in Vermont (USA). Since 2023, Haesue Lee has been playing on a 1950 "Gasparo da Salò" viola provided to her by the Samsung Foundation. For her excellence perfomance she was awarded the first prize as well as the audition award at the 72. International ARD Music Competition.
