Machine learning experts work together with data journalists, designers and product developers. The AI + Automation Lab develops stories and products spanning many disciplines. Due to Coronavirus, we mainly work remotely at the moment, using digital and agile collaboration tools. The team office is located at the BR campus in Munich-Freimann.

Team Lead Uli Köppen spent one year as a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) until June 2019. For her studies, she focused on automation and investigative research about algorithms.

With the lab, BR is also expanding collaboration with universities. Scientists from the Technical University of Munich or the University of St. Gallen weigh in on team projects. The lab is also expanding its international network and recently joined the #Journalism AI collaborative by the London School of economics.
