Für 20 Milliarden Dollar Disney an Übernahme von Twitter interessiert
Disney, das bereits die Medienhäuser ABC und ESPN besitzt, will sich noch weitere Verbreitungswege sichern - und wohl Twitter kaufen. Doch es gibt finanzkräftige Konkurrenz für den Mickey-Mouse-Konzern.
Die Walt Disney Company habe bereits konkrete Übernahmegespräche mit Twitter geführt, berichtet "Techcrunch". Mehrere Quellen hätten dies dem gewöhnlich gut informierten US-Technologieportal bestätigt. Anstatt der zuletzt kolportierten 30 Milliarden US-Dollar, für die der Kurznachrichtendienst Twitter zu haben sei, würde der Preis bei einer Übernahme durch Disney wohl aber nur bei rund 20 Milliarden Dollar liegen.
Star Wars bald im Twitter-Stream?
Disney könnte mit einer Twitter-Übernahme seine Reichweite erhöhen und sein Medien-Netzwerk weiter ausbauen: Bereits seit 1996 gehören Disney die großen US-Medienhäuser ABC und ESPN. Mit Twitter würde der Unterhaltungsriese sich einen weiteren wichtigen Verbreitungsweg auch für die eigenen Produktionen sichern. Neben populären Zeichentrick- und Animations-Titeln gehören Disney unter anderem auch die Rechte an der "Star Wars"-Reihe.
Twitter wird Videoportal
Die Partnerschaft könnte Sinn ergeben: Twitter, das nach eigenen Angaben weltweit mehr als 300 Millionen Nutzer hat, erprobt seit längerem auch Medien-Inhalte, die über die klassischen 140-Zeichen-Tweets hinausgehen - vor allem im Bereich von Videos.
Football und Präsidentschaftsdebatte
So überträgt Twitter seit diesem Jahr Spiele der US-amerikanischen Football-Profiliga NFL, auch als Interessent für die Online-Übertragungsrechte der Fußball-Bundesliga wurde Twitter bereits gehandelt. In der vergangenen Nacht hatte der Konzern von Unternehmensgründer Jack Dorsey das erste TV-Duell um die US-Präsidentschaft zwischen den Kandidaten Hillary Clinton und Donald Trump live übertragen.
Endlich ein profitables Geschäftsmodell?
Gut möglich also, dass bald auch Disney-Produktionen über Twitter zu sehen sind und das Unternehmen mit Video-Inhalten endlich sein lang ersehntes, dauerhaft profitables Geschäftsmodell findet. Wenn Disney nicht noch jemand zuvorkommt: Laut CNBC will auch der Software-Konzern Microsoft ein Angebot für Twitter abgeben.
